Soooo this whole past week was the Jones County Fair in Monticello. Thursday night was the Jason Aldean concert and Friday was the Lady Antebellum concert. All of the roommates went to the fair last year, which means welcome to my blog, final roommate Megan. Nice to have ya here with us Megan. Last year, Lady A was playing on Thursday night. All six of us took off for Cascade where we would be spending the night. So, we had track tickets and eventually weaseled our way right up to the front where I fell in love with Dave of Lady A. As he looked deeply into my eyes and screamed, "I love you too!" I almost immediately burst into tears, maybe it was true love or maybe it was the massive amount of alcohol I had consumed previous to this occurrence. Anyway, right at the end of the concert, it started to rain and then as you all know, flooded Saturday.
So, this year Kacie, Kerri and Megan went to Jason Aldean on Thursday night. They got rained on, pretty much soaked to the bone. As we all made the journey to Cascade on Friday to go to Lady A, there was not as much as a cloud in the sky. It was the most beautiful day, a little hot, but absolutely gorgeous. We had a few drinks at Megan's and then headed over to the fair. We ventured down to the track where we once again had tickets and staked out a spot, which we later moved to be closer to the stage. At this point, I would like to welcome my sister Allie and her boyfriend Spenser to my blog. We were all standing in a group enjoying Lady A's performance (ex 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvBbDsN23FY ex 2: http://www.youtube.com/user/LadyAntebellum#p/c/F2ADB138F44BEE0A/0/v_yTphvyiPU ) Okay you get it, Lady Antebellum puts on an amazing show and they are incredibly talented. As we all stood in awe, except Megan, she had a little too much to drink and made friends with everyone, but that is neither here nor there. As we stood in awe, Mom and Dad called Allie and told her there was a huge storm coming.
Now, being such a great older sister, Allie didn't tell me about this. But that's fine because I don't like storms so I probably would have gotten all nervous. As usual, it starts to just pour down rain during Lady A. But that didn't damper anyone's spirits. Nothing would damper anyone's spirits....Not even that crazy drunk lady who gashed the back of my leg open walking passed. As I am almost dying of blood loss, we hear them say, we'll let you all go, no encore or anything that was just it. As soon as they were off the stage, the wind picked up, but we couldn't just leave then. We had to stay and dance to CeeLo Green. Finally we started making our way out of the track area.
When we get to the top of the hill, in the midway area, we head for the gate to go to the car. That's when Kacie, Kelsey, Kerri and I huddle in a circle because the wind was so strong we couldn't walk any further. I promise, the winds were 70 mph. It lets up a little and we make for the bathrooms and hang out for awhile. I get a text from my dad and have quite possibly the best conversation:
Dad: "Better head for the car and get out of Monti! Big storm comin!"
Me: "Were in a shelter waiting it out. Drenched."
Dad: "At least you're safe."
Me: "It's nasty here. Windy and bad lightning."
Dad: "It's gonna last a while! Good Night"
I was expecting a little more concern but that's fine. We hang out in the bathroom for a bit until a lady decides to smoke in the doorway (ugh!). So we make our way to Kerri's parents so they can take us home. As we are walking through the food places and vendors, everything is strewn around. This is when Kacie says four times, "Oh my god, all of that merchandise. Look at that you guys. All of that merchandise." And finally, after being almost part of the Wizard of Oz 2, we head home for the night. All in all, good night and of course who didn't enjoy Lady Antebellum! Oh yeah, hopefully my camera will turn on after a few days in rice so I can post pictures!
Until we meet again blogosphere.
