Broken Wrist

Since it is rainy and quiet today, why not talk about how I broke my wrist?  Exactly, there is no reason not to rehash the whole story.  This tale begins quite some time ago, probably middle of April when I decided to invest in a pair of rollerblades.  Presumably a purchase I would enjoy, which I did.  Growing up, Allie and I would have roller derbies in the garage minus the hair pulling and running people over.  So, I was a seasoned vet of rollerblading industry...Or so I thought.

So, I have rollerblades and did a little practice test in front of our house but never really went out "skating".  Fast forward to May 19, 2011 7:30 pm.  Kacie and I decide to get some exercise.  We each pick our preferred mode of transportation, she bikes, I blade.  As we hit the road its a little rocky, but as we got going, it all came back. (I would like to pause the story here and link to one of the greatest songs ever bahaha  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDxoj-tDDIU yes, it is the song "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" by Celine)

Back to the story, we are just cruising along and come to this huge hill so we head on up, and by the time we get to the top we feel the burn.  As most people know, if you go up a hill there is usually a downside to that very same hill.  The downside of this hill was much more intimidating than the upside, but I was feeling like Brink.  So we head down the hill and I was going so fast my roller start shaking, almost like a Forest Gump moment when all the metal breaks off.  I knew then I was going to fall and fall hard.  So I fell on my butt, however I also put my left hand out to catch myself... Well that was the worst idea I had in awhile.  As soon as I hit the pavement, I knew my arm was broken.  And then I started to cry, of course, and scream to Kacie that it was broken.  As she was getting off her bike, I pulled myself to the side of the street.

Once Kacie got over to me, I told her to go get a phone to call someone to come pick us up.  No, we didn't have a phone with us.  So, she runs off to find a phone to use, but felt bad for leaving so was running back and forth between me and an apartment.  For those of you who know how I can be somewhat dramatic and over react, I was surprisingly calm for once.  So we call half the numbers I can rattle off before someone comes to get us and take me to the ER.  Kacie wanted to call 911, but I said absolutely not.  The rest of our lovely roommates come get us, welcome to my blog :  Kerri , Kelsey, and Haleigh.

They take me to the ER where I get a shot of pain medicine in the butt, a splint, Haleigh almost passes out at the site of doctorly stuff, and my suspicion is confirmed.  I broke my radius and chipped some bone off the ulna.  Fast forward again to June 1st, 2011 about 10:15 am, I am being put to sleep for surgery, yes surgery.  While I was out, the doc put 5 pins in my arm so the bones heal correctly.  So tomorrow (hopefully) the pins will come out and I will get a normal cast.

That is the long version of how I broke my wrist and I apologize to those of you who have heard it already and read it...You will never get that time back, haha sorry!

Until we meet again blogosphere
